Class of 2011
Eve Nealon

I grew up in a small town in Virginia. I knew before I entered college that I wanted to pursue an international studies major with a focus on Asia, and in specific Japan. Washington College was able to cater to both of these wishes. My freshman year I was lucky enough to be able to participate in both the Yale Model U.N., which was an amazing experience, and the Senatorial Colloquy, an equally eye opening experience. The second semester of my sophomore year I was able to go to Japan and study for the spring-summer semester at Meiji Gakuin University, right in the heart of Tokyo. I will never forget the time I spent in Tokyo, and I really fell in love with that city. I hope to go back to Japan sometime in the near future, both to learn more and hopefully to work. My junior year has been a bit of a transition period. However, I am looking much forward to my senior year and my thesis (funny thing, looking forward to a thesis), which I am hoping will be on Buddhism and its effect on politics in various countries in the region. I have really enjoyed my time at Washington College. It's a wonderful school with wonderful teachers and staff, and it has given me opportunities I would never have experienced otherwise.

Q & A
Future plans? After I graduate from Washington College I would like to go into government work. My ultimate goal would be the NSC or the State Department, but these are very competitive fields. I would also love to take any experience I might get from an internship with Senator Warner and work on Capital Hill as a Senators aid. The nice thing about an International Studies major is that you have unlimited opportunities available to you after graduation. I look forward to seeing where my career will lead me.
